In the Life of a First Year Vet Student

A dead dog. An evil smile.
Don't misjudge me. I LOVE animals. Live ones.Sorry I haven't been updating. Just got caught up in so many other things that I sort of didn't have time to blog. I wish I could say I have been busy studying, and although ThAT sHould bE the reason, I think I have been doing a whole lot of other things. Vet science has been great so far and I love the animal handling pracs. The workload is crazy though and much has been expected of us, Vet Students. Here's me cutting up and skinning a dog. I have always been disgusted by the thought of skinning a dog but I guess the pracs have been kinda...hmm..fun. It's actually darn tideous identifying muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments... *sighs*
Two days later shall be my third doggie dissection prac.
The early morning dead dogs stench.
It's very welcoming when you just had a bowl of cereals not long ago...
Trust me. =)
Here's me obviously not paying attention in prac.
There has been other practicals where I actually work with the live animals... It's way better since they can actually respond by kicking you in the face (Thank god I'm not so fortunate to have experienced that..Yet) or sinking their teeth into your arm.
Here's me working on the horse which sunk his teeth into my arm. And he gets a nice stroke for doing that.....
Riian and Ton "catching" the horse...

It's fun getting someone to lift you up in the open...Where all you can see is land...and cows. Hahaha....feels so...country.

Farmgirls... Priya, me, Esther...

Here I am with Ella, just moments before we ran around in cattle dung during our little drafting experience...

Hmm...the alternative delicacy to Ox's tongue....Cow's tongue anyone?

Pick a cow....and I'll get the tongue out for you... =)
"Now, this is how you elbow a cow after you headlock it......."

It may seem like we're in the process of torturing the cow....(don't worry...no harm was done to the cow while taking this photo)

Riian who drives us to Werribee and Ton who.... hmmm..

The girls in overalls...

Ella ME Riian..

I wish I had photos from the Sheep and Pig pracs as well...too bad I didn't bring a camera with me then...Somehow, I don't think I would have been holding my camera while wrestling a sheep heavier than I am or....be taking photos of 300 kg Pigs as they push me around...
NOW....for the more glamarous, non poo-related side of Vet...
VET BALL 2007!!
What a better way to start off than a picture of ME? Kekeke
Amber and Joanna...

Ton...Albert...

A Group photo in front of a mirror, for some reason...

Ton, me, Horace and Steven...

With the girls from Hong Kong...Emily and Colleen..

Crazy Tim the vegan...

There's something very REd about this shot...

Jimmy...just too cute..

ViC!

Hmmm.... =)

The girls...while wating for a cab which never came...

Jonathan....

Well....that's it for now...Oral presentation tomorrow and here I am fussing about the blog. Hope you guys enjoyed the brief run through of how I'm doing here.

Vet School, Finally!!!

Well, I'm back in Melbourne for quite sometime now but time seems to pass me by day after day that I didn't actually sit down and take a breather, let alone create a new post.

O week kicked off the very first week I was in Melbourne and I had loads of fun knowing more peeps, touring the safari and visiting the police dog training centre. Here are a few snapshots of O week with the Vet people...
Here I am with Ella....we had a chance to take a photo with a member of the police dog squad and his extremely smart (and way adorable) black Lab.
With the girls and Mr. Hippo at the Weribee Safari.

Messing around with the horn of some animal in the "Safari Bus".

In our cowboy hats....all ready for the Country and Western barn dance out in the open air on the last night of O Week

What is an Aussie party without its boost.....
and heaps of people dancing about in sync...???

This is a few of us resting on hay after hopping and skipping around, trying deperately to keep up with the dance steps...

All in all, O week was fab.

Well, that was O week...now here's a little about how I spent my first CNY away from Malaysia... I spent it working!! I worked at some CNY street festival in Chinatown under the scorching heat of about 36 - 38 degrees Celcius. And worse, we were actually BBQ-ing satay sticks under a tent! But, I guess it was a whole new experience for me...Towards the end, we were shouting out for people to buy food from our stalls at extremely low prices. I was screaming "Chicken rice for just 5 dollarSS!!!! Closing sale!!! Come get your chicken rice!!!!"

A rather new experience for me I suppose. Oh well, I'd better get back to reading anatomy... There's just so much to learn in Vet, you'll die if you don't study every single day. No kidding. Off to grasp the book of Vet Anatomy...LAters, friends!
